WIA Profile: Samantha Brown

Two years ago Samantha Brown embarked on a new career in the pleasure products industry after more than a decade of working in residential real estate. Her passion for promoting OVO Lifestyle Toys regularly takes her cross-country to teach retail staff and consumers about the benefits of the brand’s high quality materials and unique designs. As brand manager for OVO Lifestyle Toys, Brown not only does retail trainings and trade shows, but also has recently taken on the role as the company’s spokesperson with appearances on radio shows and podcasts. In this month’s edition of Women in Adult, we profile Brown as she discusses the highlights of her position with OVO.

XBIZ: What is your role and responsibility at OVO Lifestyle Toys?

I will continue to build strong relationships with our customers. I also really enjoy talking about OVO Lifestyle Toys on various radio shows and podcasts, and will definitely do more of that.

Samantha Brown: I am the brand manager for the U.S. That involves on-site and off-site trainings, trade shows, customer service, and promoting OVO through various media outlets. I travel throughout the U.S. and sometimes I am fortunate enough to travel abroad.

XBIZ: How (and when) did you get into the business?

Brown: Two years ago I had just moved to Miami from New York City and left a 12-year career in residential real estate. I knew I wanted a change; saw the job on an online job board, applied and the rest is history.

XBIZ: What challenges have you confronted in your career and how have you overcome them?

Brown: To be honest, I haven’t experienced many major challenges in my career so far. The old cliché applies here; there just aren’t enough hours in the day. Since I cover the entire U.S., I find it difficult sometimes to schedule on-site training sessions. I am all about promoting the OVO brand, so I have to get creative and host off-site training sessions via Skype and other means.

XBIZ: What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Brown: I love talking sex toys all day long to sales staff and customers. I thoroughly enjoy educating our customers and end consumers about OVO.

XBIZ: What is your personal motto or mantra that you live by?

Brown: I live and breathe customer service. I believe all strong relationships have excellent customer service.

XBIZ: What career accomplishment are you most proud of?

Brown: Having only been in the industry for a year and a half, I am most proud of how OVO has grown in that amount of time throughout the U.S.

XBIZ: What are your professional goals for the rest of 2016?

Brown: I will continue to build strong relationships with our customers. I also really enjoy talking about OVO Lifestyle Toys on various radio shows and podcasts, and will definitely do more of that. I am very excited about the direction OVO is going with our new toys, and I invite anyone needing more information about OVO to contact me directly at samantha@ovojointventure.com.

Why It's Time for Adult Retail to Embrace AI

In the late 1980s, I was working in the rental car business. My first company didn’t have a single computer. Everything — contracts, inventory, employee records — was done by hand. If you wanted a report, you dug through paper files and crunched numbers on a calculator. It was tedious, but it was all we knew.

How Pleasure Brands Can Ethically Market to LGBTQ+ Communities

Every June, the rainbow floodgates open. Suddenly, pleasure products are “Pride-themed,” companies change their logos and brands rush to show just how inclusive they are — at least for 30 days. But as a queer, nonbinary marketing strategist who works with adult brands year-round, I’m here to say: Rainbow dildos alone are not progress. They’re often just noise.
